The soccer season is in full swing and the Varsity Girls’ Team is ready to show out and play their best. In soccer, you have to practice well to play well and you have to have certain skills. You might wonder why students would join the varsity team. The captain, Jennifer Castro was asked why she joined the soccer team. She shared that one of the reasons she joined was to help keep her grades up and to keep her body fit.

Jennifer plays sweeper on the Seagoville High School varsity team. Since the season started, the Girls’ Soccer Varsity team has won 2 out of 4 games. Jennifer wears the number 17 on her jersey; she hadn’t had any background experience when she tried out for soccer. When she started playing soccer she struggled, but soon got the hang of it. After school she practices 2 hours when she doesn’t work. This is her 3rd year playing for the school.

When her skills started improving, she became the varsity soccer team captain. When she became the team captain she was excited and motivated to do better. She also mentioned that it isn’t hard being the varsity girls team captain. “The varsity team has good players and that’s why it is not hard to be captain,” said Jennifer Castro. Coach Willich stated that, “Castro is just a natural leader and hard worker. All of the girls just follow her lead. She was an easy pick to be captain.” Good luck this season to Jennifer and our Lady Dragons Soccer team.
