Help Save the World- Start Eating Bugs

 Recently, our neighbor nations have adopted eating bugs. Countries in Europe and Asia are now putting bugs into their meals and it’s currently helping them save the world. They are using insects to replace small amounts of poultry, beef and fish. By 2050, that small amount can turn into a big difference if we start to feed our little ones bugs. The whole purpose of replacing poultry, beef and fish is to lessen the carbon footprint of agriculture, save threatened species, and help with climate change. Substituting bugs can also be more healthier and less expensive; these small beasties are high in protein and have less risks of health problems. But the question right now is how will Americans adapt to the idea of substituting creepy crawlies for their lovely beef, poultry and fish?

    Experts say starting new foods when kids are young greatly increases their chances of liking that food.  Parents can add this unusual protein as part of their meal, so as they get older they will be used to the fact of eating bugs. Traditions carry on and it can become normal to eat worms and beetles. The problem in America is that the idea of eating bugs is revolting. However, bug munching is slowly making its name in the US. In Seattle, toasted grasshoppers are surprisingly popular and appear to sell out quite fast. Chefs in New York have also been interested in including bugs in their dishes and are starting to do it. One last example of how it’s making a name for itself is the fact that technology now allows you to get bugs delivered to your door, “Chirps” is the famous company that is currently doing this service, and they are slowly starting to be recognized and making a name for themselves. More and more companies are slowly making investments but the big question still emerges: how will Americans react to eating bugs as part of their meals?
